O.k. the togs are on for the new year and new experiences are way up there on the to-do list. Holidays have yet to be booked but I've got my heart set on Vancouver and more closer to home, Greece this year. I was wondering if any one out there had recommendations for cities or places which seem particularly inviting to mixed couples.
By inviting I mean non-gawping, potentially aggressive locals to be avoided at all costs. Places where the nightlife is kicking and diverse; where if not culture oozing from the streets at least have lots of entertainment or nature available as eye candy. You get the gist...
You may think I'm over the top but there are some parts of former east Germany which I will not visit simply because 'racist attacks' and harrassment have become a sadly common occurance. Don't get me wrong some of these areas are still quite stunning with a lot of history but I just can't be bothered with the aggro and there are heaps of other gorgeous cities and towns in Germany to visit.

Re: great cities for mixed rel. couples
Sun, January 8, 2006 - 11:24 AMGreece gets my choice. Been there with a partner (we are mixed) and had great fun in Athens & Mykonos. The other islands were okay. Crete had way too many Germans for us. -

Re: great cities for mixed rel. couples
Wed, January 11, 2006 - 3:27 PMThanks for the suggestion Lore. Greece is definately on the cards for summer I reckon, being my first time I only know that Athens is for sure a destination which we have in mind especially since we have friends there.
I will be sure to avoid Crete though can't abide the thought of leaving Germany only to be surrounded by Germans again, no matter how short the flight! -

Re: great cities for mixed rel. couples
Mon, January 30, 2006 - 9:01 AMOK, I guess this is may be a no brainer, but compared to anywhere we have been San Francisco bay area, CA is the best place we have been for less flack about being a mixed couple. I don't know how kickin the nightlife is though. Good luck in your adventures :-) Oh and when we were in Paris, we didn't get any odd looks at all, but we weren't there very long so it is difficulut to say how it is over time. Very refreshing though. -

Re: great cities for mixed rel. couples
Mon, January 30, 2006 - 9:08 AMThe same is true of London. Everyone's busy. No one pays attention. And you can pick your friends from such a wide cross section of people. -

Re: great cities for mixed rel. couples
Tue, January 31, 2006 - 1:35 PMExperience has been that London is as you said Charles, no one takes a blind bit of notice since mixed couples are not a rarity in London. We loove london; but that's more cos it's my home town and we both love it.
By the way Charles would you happen to know what "chavs" or "happy slappers" are?...
My sis. dropped the names on the phone and I haven't a clue what she's talking about...? -
